Narym Horse

Origins

The Narym pony comes from the region near the Ob River in western Siberia and is very similar to the Priob breed, except generally more robust in stature. The two share similar physical characteristics as they are shaped by similar climate & conditions. Some consider them to be two different subgroups of the same northern forest horse breed.

Mytilene Horse

Origins

Also called the Ege Midillisi, the Mytilene horse is a small horse or large pony native to Midillisi island off the coast of Turkey. This is an ancient breed and has been documented in Turkey for the last millennia. They were selectively bred by the Ottoman Turks using the smallest type of Anadolu pony to develop an animal small enough to stand under trees for collecting hazel nuts & olives. After the fall of the Ottoman Empire the island fell to Greek hands, however the Mytilene horse breeding continued in Turkey.

Morochuco Horse

Origins

The Morochuco comes comes from the Peruvian Andes in the state of Ayacucho and the breed was thought to be developed by Jesuits. They are well known for their smooth, pacing gaits among other qualities that make them fine riding horses. These are small, shaggy animals but quite hardy & surefooted and perhaps the best representation of the Andean breeds. This breed is shaped by the climate & needs of the people & over the years they have become an integral part of daily life.

Origins

Also called the Tunisian, the Mogod Pony comes from the northernmost area of Tunisia and is thought to be a strain of the mighty Barb horse, refined and bred to suit the area over centuries. Sadly as machines began to replace animals in the 20th century their numbers began to dwindle.

The Miyaoko Pony comes from Miyaoko Island in Okinawa Prefecture in Japan, an area that has been known for their horseflesh for centuries. Small ponies have roamed the island for years bearing a striking resemblance to their Mongolian ancestors.
