Sicilian Horse

Intro

Also called Siciliano Indigeno and Cavallo Siciliano, the Sicilian Horse is found on the island of Sicily and has an obvious Asian influence in their conformation.

Origins

Native to Sicily, these animals came from crossing local mares with imported stallions, particularly ‘Oriental’ animals (we think that means Arabian and Barb, but could be Mongolian too). Their breeding began in the mid 20th century and a studbook was established in 2024 with 197 animals.
