Intro
The handsome and tough Arabian has been crossed with other breeds for a long time and many of the European countries have developed a breed crossing Arab blood with local types. The Arabian Bardigiano or Bardarab Horse is an example of an Italian cross with the robust Bardigiano.
Origins
The Bardigiano horse in Italy are ancestors to the mounts of Belgian Gauls who invaded Italy during Roman times. Bred in mountainous areas, they are hardy small horses with incredible agility. After WWII several different bloodlines were introduced into the breed, presumably that’s when Arabian blood was added as well. This cross allows 25% Arabian blood and while it’s not an official breed, if they meet breed standards they can be registered with the Bardigiano studbook.
