Some animals with appaloosa white patterns will also display vertical striping of the hooves. It doesn’t always affect all four hooves and varies considerably in expression, sometimes growing stronger as the horse ages. Regardless of the leg color or if there are white leg markings, the hooves can be striped. On some patterns, dark colored leg markings can have pale or pink hooves, another appaloosa expression, although a much rarer one.
