Horses with Colored Socks

A look at horses with colored socks around the world and on a variety of different breeds.

Colored socks can come from a variety of genetics, from white patterns to the dilution genes and are essentially leg markings that aren’t black or white. In pintos, sometimes a white spot will be above a colored leg, giving the impression of a base colored sock. In appaloosas, the Leopard complex can create a lovely bronzing on the legs. A few of the dilutions and modifiers can also dilute leg colors, giving animals markings in unusual colors.
