Origins

The Kentucky Mountain Saddle Horse has been bred in the hills of eastern Kentucky since before the Civil War. They are known for their incredibly smooth gaits and incredible versatility. There are three different registries in Kentucky for this breed, each one with slightly different registration criteria regarding color & size. However there are common characteristics expected from Kentucky Mountain Saddles including the smooth, four-beat gait and a stand up disposition.
