Algerian Barb Horse

Intro

The Barb is native to North Africa and many of the countries have developed strains of the bloodlines. Algeria is no different, with their own version of the Barb.

Origins

Almost anywhere that breeds Barbs has a long history of horsemanship. The Algerian Barbs history is shrouded in mystery, but they are still commonly found in the country today. Only two breeds are recognized in the country, the Barb and the Arabian Berber.

Average height 14 – 15 hands

Head is long with a straight or convex profile
Eyes are lively
Neck is medium in length, muscular and arched
Back is short and straight
Chest is long and deep
Legs are slender and solid with broad joints
Hooves are small, shapely and strong
