Zante Horse

Intro

The Zante Horse horse is bred on Zakynthos island in Greece, for which it takes its name. They are essentially a strain of Andravida.

Origins

Established in the early 20th century, the Zakynthos by crossing local island mares with Anglo Arabian stallions. Breeding was slowed by WWI, but began again in 1918 and English Thoroughbred influence was added. Unfortunately there is no centralized studbook so it is difficult to find any population information, however they are very rare in the 21st century.
