Intro
Also called Kushmakaya, the Kushum breed was developed in the Ural mountain region of Kazakhstan from 1931 to 1976.
Origins
The goal of this breeding program was to produce war mounts well suited to living in herds year round. Native Kazakh mares were crossed with Thoroughbreds, halfbreds & trotters for good size & gaits. Special care was taken to retain the hardiness & adaptability of the Kazakh breed.
