Intro
Also called Sella Italiano, the Italian Saddle Horse is a sport horse breed and their stud books are based on performance rather than breed bloodlines.
Origins
Established in 1973 and developed using traditional Italian saddle breeds and improved with blood from other European saddle animals, including , Maremmano, Persano and Salerno. This is a popular breed in the nation for show jumping purposes. However bloodlines aren’t enough to become a registered Sella Italiano, they must also pass a performance test. Their studbook is also open to other European sport horse breeds, providing they can pass the performance test.
