Slovenian Warmblood Horse

Intro

The Slovenski Toplokrvni Konj or Slovenian Warmblood Horse is a relatively recent breed, producing animals that are big and versatile specifically for equestrian sports.

Origins

Sport horse breeding isn’t a long tradition in Slovenia, in the late 19th and early 20th century breeders in several districts bred a heavy warmblood type. However, when racing started to take hold of the country, most breeders switched to trotters. Through most of the 20th century, warmblood breeding was sporadic except for a small population of Hanovarian mares at the Krumperk Horse Breeding Centre.

After Slovenia became independent, breeders again began to focus on breeding modern, sport type warmbloods for competitive equestrian sports. Sport type and Anglo-Arabian stallions were imported to cross with local mares. Their breeding goal is a harmonious, noble, warmblood with a larger frame, with good character, nice movement and adaptable enough to compete in a variety of equestrian sports.

Still perfecting their recipe for the perfect sport horse, there is a variety in conformation of this breed.
