Slovenian Coldblooded Horse

Intro

The Slovenski Hladnokrvni Konj or Slovenian Coldblooded Horse comes from the Gorenjska region from a foundation of local coldblooded animals.

Origins

There were originally a variety of larger, coldblooded horse types from today’s Slovenia, most of which are considered extinct today. During the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy some breeding programs were put into place using local mares with Belgian and Noriker stallions. The additional blood helped to standardize a Slovenian type and in 1962 a stud book was established.

According to the DAD-IS they are listed as endangered and as of 2023 there were 3099 left.
