Intro
A relatively new breed, the Gemlik Horse was developed as a jumping horse at the Gemlik Military Veterinary School and Education Center in Turkey.
Origins
Breeding began in 1941 with a foundation of Nonius, Karacabey and Turkish Arabian bloodlines. Only the finest animals were used and selection was rigorous breeding for competitive jumping. As they are so new, their numbers aren’t vary high. Unlike many modern sport horses, presumably they are kept pure with the genetics they started with.
