Cirit Horse

Intro

Cirit or jeered is an ancient Turkish game played on horseback. The name translates to javelin, which were used to play the original game. Today it is played with sticks and the horses used to play this game are called Cirit Horses.

Origins

Not necessarily a breed, for now it’s more of a type (they are not listed in the DAD-IS). There is discussion surrounding whether they constitute a breed. Animals bred for the sport utilize different bloodline mixes to maximize specific strengths required for the game. Most commonly the crosses involve Arabian animals bred with local Anadolu or Karabair horses from neighboring countries.
