Intro
The Cabadin is a strain of the handsome Kabarda breed a saddle type which comes from the Caucasus. Originally imported in 1964, they are now considered a local breed in Vietnam.
Origins
This is an old breed and come from a mix of sturdy steppe horses crossed with lighter Persian and Turkoman blood. The original type was fine and reminiscent of the lighter desert breeds. As the years passed, the type changed and by the time they made their way to Vietnam, they were more robust animals.
Warm climates are notoriously difficult places to raise horses and island populations often need an influx of outside blood. In 2013 a project was established to cross Cabadin animals with local pony types to improve the stock. It was a success and after two years there was in increase in quality animals.
