Anadolu Native

Intro

Also called Anatolian Native, Transbaikal, Native Turkish Pony or Turk, this pony is the most common Turkish breed. They are known for their speed, endurance and robust nature.

Origins

The Anadolu breed comes from Turkey and draws on the blood of several ancient breeds, including the Arabian and Akhal-Teke. Although the Anadolu bloodlines are ancient in their own right.

The Turkish people have always had a need for this versatile native pony in farm work, as pack animals and for transportation. The breed also requires little care, making them easy to own almost anywhere in the country. Known for their ability to survive in harsh climates under poor conditions.

Average height 12.1 – 13.3 hands
Small horse with great strength and endurance

Head is small and can be refined – both convex and concave profiles
Ears are long and set low
Neck is short and thick
Withers are low
Chest is narrow
Legs are strong with good bone
Feet are hard
