Intro
There were a variety of breeds developed in the Cape Province of South Africa and many modern breeds were in some way influenced by the now-extinct Hantam, Boer or Cape Horse.
Origins
The bloodlines of many South African breeds are intertwined, bound by the types of animals imported into the country over the years. Probably the grandfather of all breeds originating in the cape, the Cape Horse was a slow mix of Asian animals imported during the 17th and 18th centuries; Thoroughbred during the 18th and 19th century and Hackney during the 19th century.
