Cape Harness Horse

Intro

The Cape Region of South Africa produced many different types of horse, most based on initial European imports. While many of those breeds were heavy saddle types and cavalry mounts, some were bred to be used in harness.

Origins

Over the years and both Boer Wars, many different bloodlines were imported into the country. The distinction between many of the breeds found there is often slight and based on their foundation breeds and any additional influence. The Cape Harness was the product of Anglo-Arab, Friesian and Hackney. The result was a robust, handsome horse with high stepping action.
