Intro
Named for the region of Bessarabia where they are bred, the Bessarabian is a breed of heavy saddle horse which contributed to the old Transylvanian breed.
Origins
Eastern Europe has a historical great love of adaptable saddle horses and the Bessarabian was appreciated for its ability to look good while working hard. Bessarabia was a large region, encompassing today’s Moldova, Ukraine. Today the strain is considered extinct.
