Origins

These animals well known for being surefooted and easy to ride, they were well known throughout North America by the time the Revolution came and are said to have been one of George Washington’s favorite mounts. The Narragansett was crossed with the Thoroughbred early in the 18th century which led to a new breed called the American horse. Many of these animals were exported to the West Indies & bred with Spanish animals forming the basis for many of the Paso breeds of today.

By the turn of the 19th century the Narragansett Pacer was officially bred out of existence & they are now an extinct breed.
