Intro
The Augeron Horse was an old breed of draft horse that is a strain of Percheron bred specifically in Pays d’Auge. They are now extinct.
Origins
This strain developed into a separate breed due to years of breeding in the Auge area and the influence of local climate and soil. In the early 20th century, they were contested as a breed and by some considered simply a variety of Pecheron. This combined with the rise of automobiles spelled the end for this type and they were absorbed into the Percheron studbook in 1966.
