Intro
While native to Austria, the Pinkafeld or Pinkafö horse is the ancestor of Hungarian Draft horses today. Now extinct, the Pinkafeld blood lives on in Hungary.
Origins
During the 18th century draft animals from Austria were taken to Hungary. They were quickly adapted to local use as Hungary was a land of mostly light riding horses. As they were bred locally two distinct types emerged. One was the Pinkafeld, a large massive type probably closer to the large animals that had originally been imported.
The DAD-IS designates this breed to Austria and it doesn’t appear under the list for Hungary.
