Both the dun dilution and the roan white pattern have a muting effect on any coat color, so their combination can have interesting results. Dun does it by making the hairs half translucent and roan by scattering white hairs throughout the body, making for some strange coloring. While roaning may mask some of the primitive dun characteristics, generally the dun element is identifiable by its dorsal stripe.
