A look at dun dorsal stripes around the world and on a variety of different breeds.
The one factor of a dun animal that makes it very easy to identify is the dorsal stripe down their back. This is an obvious characteristic that will be visible on any dun color, it is always darker and not diluted like the body hair. The stripe can also create a skunk stripe that runs up through the mane (called a sandwich mane) and down through the tail.
