Intro
The Shirvan Horse is one of breeds found in Azerbaijan, but different than some of the other breeds as it is lighter than the mountain breeds. They come from the Kura-Araz lowlands, which was more suited for horses.
Origins
The origins of the Shirvan breed are shrouded in mystery. While the country is historically known for producing fine horses, this breed doesn’t resemble its ancestors in elegance. It is said that Russian cavalrymen and officers alike preferred animals from Shirvan regioin.
