Amur Horse

Intro

The Amur is a light horse breed from Siberia of the early 19th century that is sadly now extinct.

Origins

Their bloodlines were a combination of Transbaikal (Buryat) and Tomsk heritage, they were bred primarily for riding. The Amur was a hardy and strong breed with a finer conformation than generally found in colder northern regions.

Their Demise

The breed became extinct due to crossing with many of the other Russian breeds including Orlov Trotters, Don and Budyonny.

Physique

Short, thick neck
Medium length back with a well-rounded croup
Foundation was firm with good tractive power
Mane and tail were thick/ long
