Intro
The Deutsches Sportpferd or German Sport Horse is not a breed, but rather a collection of German warmblood breeds. In a nation of strongly regional breeding practices, the sport horse is a joint framework for jumping, eventing and dressage.
Origins
Truly a 21st century breed, the German Sport Horse studbooks began in 2003 with the Brandenburg-Anhalt and Saxony-Thuringia breeding associations. By 2014 the breed was officially founded, when five warmblood associations decided to jointly manage the sport horse studbooks. While they manage jointly, they remain independent to ensure regional breeder support.
