The Padang Pony comes from the island of Sumatra in Indonesia and is similar to the other pony breeds found in Indonesia including the Bali, Java and Timor.

The Lombok pony comes from the Indonesian island of Lombok and is very similar to the Macassar pony which is found in Sulawesi. The island was known for exporting their ponies to other islands during the 16th century and the Lombok probably has close ties to Java Ponies as the islands traded horses.

The Jawa or Java pony is similar to the Timor breed, however they are larger and stronger than most of the other Indonesian pony breeds. While they are more powerful, they are perhaps among the more refined and handsome of the nation.

Also called Kuda-Gayo. Gaju and Gayo, the Gayoe is a pony that comes from the island of Sumatra and are named for the Gayoe hills on the island. This pony is closely related to the Batak, Deli, Bali, Java, Sumba & Timor ponies. Perhaps the most closely related to the Batak, the Gayoe is known as a stockier branch of lesser quality.

This breed’s name most likely came from the large quantities of ponies that are exported from the port of Deli, the Deli pony was first exported to Singapore & Penang and later spread through Malaysia.
