There is something almost unnerving about being peered at through a blue horse eye. Strangely human, there seems to be a wisdom behind that blue gaze that can’t quite be grasped.
Although I’ll always love the soft brown eyes more commonly found in the equine species, there is just something about electric blue. Here are some lively shots of blue eyed horses (and I’ll spare everyone the ‘Ole blue eyes’ reference). 😉

Todays artist appreciates a number of different art forms, but all of them relate to horses in some form or another. Her work is interesting and the variety is delightful. Her all time favorite horse is the Missouri Fox Trotter (mostly for their keen sense of humor).

Last week we took a look at a brief history of the Arabian breed. While searching I found a lot of great videos about this majestic breed so video Sundays in June are officially dedicated to the Arabian.
This video provides a quick look at some interesting facts about the Arabian breed that you may not know (albeit these are western facts). For example, who knew that George Washington preferred the breed? Mysterious animals, their legacy has carried across oceans and we continue to learn more about them.

A favorite of horse lovers worldwide, the Arabian family tree is large and has branches throughout Asia, the Middle East & Africa. Their origins are a mystery, however their spirit, beauty and hardiness has been prized for hundreds and hundreds of years.

This blog is one of those ‘guilty reads’ she posts some atrocious images, has opinionated views & I love it that she shares them. Beyond just ugly to look at, much of the equipment she posts is of poor quality or downright abusive. Snide name aside, the articles on her blog are surprisingly thoughtful in their critiques (& her scary pink saddles of the week segment is priceless).

Last week we took a look at simple seat building exercises so in the vein of equine fitness this week we take a look at more helpful exercises for riders…namely the dreaded squats.
Although painful, squats are great exercises for riders (and who knew there were so many different varieties). The video below shows several different types of squats, specifically chosen to strengthen the muscles of riders. Like the seat exercises, these are not just great for riding, but great for working problem areas for many women…the lower body & upper legs.
