A look at sandy chestnut horses around the world and on a variety of different breeds.
Sandy is the lightest of the chestnut shades. The coat hair ranges drom a pale red to strawberry blonde, mane and tail ranges from darker than coat color to blonde. Sandy chestnut horses can be affected by the cream dilution which produces a cream palomino; the flaxen modifier which lightens mane and tail hair to white; and the champagne dilution creating a gold champagne. All of the above can also be confused with silver bay when accompanied by a flaxen mane and tail, but they are all different genetically.
