An Ongoing Series

While most people won’t agree with the treatment of animals in this race, the same thing could easily be said about most modern equestrian sports. This one comes steeped in tradition and is a part of equestrian history. Episode four chronicles day four of the race and by this time many riders have fallen out of the race. There are only 15 riders left and a better chance of winning but the horses, hot temperatures and rough terrain are taking there toll on everyone.

While no one can agree with the rough treatment of animals in this race, I could easily say the same thing about most modern equestrian sports. This one comes from years of tradition and is a part of equestrian history. Episode three finds Barry and Joe well-rested and only 10 kilometers behind the leaders. It’s all about good horse selection and the guys know it.

While I don’t agree with the hard treatment of the animals in this race, I could say the same thing about most modern horse sports. This one comes from years of equine tradition and part of all of our equestrian history. Episode two sees Barry and Joe at the back of the pack after a disastrous first day. They need to buckle down and learn the ropes if they stand a chance of winning.

While I can’t agree with the harsh treatment of the animals in this race, I could say the same thing about most modern horse sports. This one is steeped in tradition and part of our equestrian history. This show features Barry and Joe who only have three training days to learn the rules, size up the competition, acclimatize to the heat and meet the wild Mongolian horses. I’ll post more episodes as they come available.

Emma Massingale Synchronicity Horses

Simply Gentle

It is interesting to watch someone command the attention of multiple horses at once. She uses the horses herd mentality to become their leader and they take the passive roles without any argument – they look quite happy to have a strong leader.

Isabel Centennial Wagon Train

Click to see VideoThe town of Isabel in South Dakota celebrated their centennial in August of 2011 and held a grand event to celebrate.

Pioneer Days

Part of the festivities included a three day wagon train that started about 30 miles outside of town. This was to commemorate the days of the pioneers and the hardships they lived through. This video is a documentation of the wagon train ride.

Unique Balance

Many of us have seen equestrian performances whether online or in person, but this one is slightly different. I like the variety of dance types used and the unique selections they used and the fact that the animal parts were simple and untaxing. The video isn’t the best quality, but it’s an interesting watch.

The Four Riders

Click to see VideoThe Four Riders is a four channel video installation that deconstructs the equine anatomy into landscapes of moving flesh. Of course the theme is the four riders of the apocalypse, but it’s beautifully shot and edited.

Scary Inspiration

Inspired by the apocalyptic atmosphere in Durer’s Four Horseman woodcut as well as by Eadweard Muybridge’s study of animal movement, this work places the horse in a contemporary context by staging the wild and grotesque next to the restrained and elegant.
