The hotly contested Mongol Derby is the longest & most imposing horse race in the world. The race re-creates the vast messenger system of 1000 kilometers created by Genghis Khan.
An Ongoing Series
While most people won’t agree with the treatment of animals in this race, the same thing could easily be said about most modern equestrian sports. This one comes steeped in tradition and is a part of equestrian history. Episode four chronicles day four of the race and by this time many riders have fallen out of the race. There are only 15 riders left and a better chance of winning but the horses, hot temperatures and rough terrain are taking there toll on everyone.
Stay Tuned
I have two more episodes to post and I’ll be sharing them in the weeks to come. Please do tell me what you think about the race in the comments below – I’m sure there are strong opinions on this topic.
