Montenegro Mountain Horse

Intro

Also called Domaci brdski konj, the Domestic Mountain Horse comes from Montenegro. This breed is thought to be descendants of an interesting mix of bloodlines, Tarpan and Przewalski crossed with Arabian animals.

Origins

Belonging to group of Balkan mountain horses and are similar to mountain animals bred in Bosnia, Bulgaria, Macedonia and Romania. As a whole, they are an extremely resilient bunch, with a strong constitution and great endurance, surviving on poor fodder. Also incredibly surefooted, they can get to inaccessible areas carrying large loads or people.

Average height 13.1-13.2 hands

Physique

The body weight is around 300-400 kg. Coat colors: dorata is the most common, followed by gray, i.e. white, crow, alata. The mountain horse is considered a pack animal and can carry 100-120 kg on a saddle. In addition, it is used as a draft and riding horse .
