Intro
Of Balkun type, the Krk Island Horse is not an official breed, but a type found specifically on Krk Island in Croatia, for which they are named.
Origins
The type originated from local animals being turned loose during mechanization in the late 20th century. Originally they were poached, but more recently they have been protected by law. Today the wild horses of Krk are a tourist attraction. This is a small, handsome island horse which has become its own type.
