Hladnokrvnjak Horse

Intro

Also called Croatian Hladnokrvnjak, Hrvatski Hladnokrvnjak and Croatian Coldblood, the Hladnokrvnjak comes from the northwest and are fairly common in Croatia.

Origins

This is a large draft type horse, bred for heavy agriculture work and meat production. Created by breeding warmblood mares with imported draft studs early in the 19th century, primarily Noriker, then later influence by Ardennais, Percheron and Brabant.

Due to environmental factors, different studs tended to produce different types, base on localized needs. Regardless where they were bred, they became quite popular as strong farm horses. Sadly as the 20th century eliminated the need for animals in agriculture the main reason they are bred today is meat and milk production.
