More Horse Sketches of Pisanello

Pisanello Horse Sketch
A few weeks back, I featured some exquisite horse sketches by Pisanello, who was an Italian artist during the early Renaissance. His work was so prolific that I had to separate these sketches into several parts and today it’s part 2.

Eerily Similar

Pisanello’s bears a striking resemblance to Leonardo da Vinci’s & his work has been mistakenly credited to a number of the greats, (including Leonardo). These particular drawings come from the Vallardi Codex which contains a large collection of work from his workshop created in the 15th century.

It’s interesting to see the difficult angles he chose to reproduce & his attention to detail almost brings these drawings to life…even if they are unfinished.

This isn’t even all of them, I’ve got another post full of Pisanello’s amazing drawings coming soon. For now be sure to check out part 1 as well.
