Thought to be a form of camouflage, the sooty modifier causes dark hairs to grow interspersed in the coat hairs. This is generally concentrated along the topline and points. Sooty buckskins are the product of a single dose of the cream dilution and a sooty modifier on a bay coat. Sooty coloring is not uncommon on buckskin animals.
