Horse body markings are as varied as the animals who wear them. Each horse marking is wholly unique to them, but most fall under several broad categories.

A chest shield is a pinto marking that covers the chest surrounded by white, resembling a protective shield or armor on the chest.

Dapples are spots of white hairs surrounded by a colored coat. Most commonly found in greys, they can actually be found in many colors.

Grey affects all animals a bit differently and some grey out leaving areas of dense fleabites, that look like spots of base color.

Old, blind horse with injury marksInjury Marks
Come from an injury that injures hair follicles and a regrowth of hair without pigment. Can be found anywhere on the body.

Paw prints are found on white tobiano markings and range in size. Named for how they cluster to look like little paw prints.
