A look at silver dapple horses around the world and on a variety of different breeds.
The lovely silver dapple, also called taffy and chocolate, is the result of a silver dilution gene on a black base. This dilution in particular produces a fairly wide variety of shades from simple black, ranging from mouse grey to deep chocolate brown. Mane and tail hair are silvery to creamy white. This coloring can be confused with liver flaxen or chocolate palominos as they can display dapples and have creamy flaxen mane and tail hair. There are a variety of regional names for this color and different breeds tend to display the quite gene differently.
