Intro
Not an official breed, the Veiga Horse is a strain of Lusitano which is bred in central Portugal.
Origins
This strain was developed in the mid 19th century by Rafael José da Cunha and based on a family tradition. The strain was influenced by two Alter Real studs gifted to Rafael from King Ferdinand II. While not an official breed, they are registered under the Lusitano studbook. Today Carlos and Manuel Veiga Tavares continue the family breeding of these handsome animals.
