Uzunyayla Horse

Intro

The Uzunyayla Horse comes from Turkey and was developed in the mid 19th century. It is believed that their ancestors came from Caucasus which means they are probably related to the Kabarda and they were bred pure in Turkey until the start of the 20th century when Anadolu and Nonius blood was added.

Origins

Taking their name from the Uzunyayla Plateau between Sivas and Kayseri provinces which is traditionally where they are bred. A handsome small riding horse, they have unfortunately low numbers in the 21st century. According to the DAD-IS they are at risk as of 2003, however they provide no population data.

Average height 13.8 – 15.3 hands

Physique

Head is large with a concave profile
Eyes are small
Neck is medium in length
Withers are pronounced
Back is long
Croup is short and sloping
Legs are strong with good joints
Feet are well shaped and tough with coarse feathering

Generally bay, but can also be found in other solid colors
