Intro
The Caballo de Deporte Español or Spanish Sport Horse is like most European sport breeds, registered based on sound temperament, athletic ability and performance rather than breed bloodlines.
Origins
Horses have long been a large part of Spanish heritage and their stock helped to populate the Americas with horses during the colonial era. Many breeds of the Americas owe some of their genetics to one of the Spanish breeds. Many of the breeds found in Spain have a long, fabulous history, but the Sport Horse is a newer addition. While they started breeding sport horses at the end of the 20th century, their studbook wasn’t established until 2007.
Often native breeds will put their own mark on sport horse types and the Spanish version is likely to have some degree of Andalusian influence.
