Intro
Found in the Renchinlhumbe, Bayanzurkh, Ulaan-Uul, Khankh, Tsagaannuur soums of Khuvsgul provinces of Mongolia, the Darkhad is a type of Mongolian horse that is raised at around 8000ft elevation.
Origins
Indigenous type that was pure enough to be recognized in as its own ‘breed’ in 1990. The breeds found in Mongolia are hardy and robust animals, raised in a variety of climates they are also adaptable and able to live on poor forage. This particular type is well known for their high-yield milk production, as the mares can produce twice as much milk as other varieties found in the country.
