Racetrack Blacksmith – Horse Jobs

An essential member of any track, the farrier has a very demanding job. From regular trims to emergency services they have their job cut out for them at all hours of the day.

What You Need

This is a position which benefits from a physical strength, the ability to work with multiple animals and a strong knowledge of horse anatomy. At the track it is also important that the farrier have a firm understanding of the Thoroughbred temperament as well as the rigors of track work.

Solid communication skills are also a must. Track blacksmiths don’t just deal with horses, they work with a whole host of different types of people and track staff.

If You Must Fall Do It In Style

I hate to glorify people falling off their horses because it happens to all of us and it’s fair to say that it is never very funny at the time. Although those same facts can make it pretty funny later on.

This fall isn’t that funny, however it was executed with such style and grace that I just had to share it with everyone.

His performance actually earns him some well-deserved applause.

2010 British Open Show

2010 British Open Show These yearly trials aren’t just about high level competition, they are a fun activity for the whole family.

The combination of supreme athletic skill, intense competition and a fun atmosphere make this a great weekend outdoors. Plus the riders will hold daily signings so fans will have an opportunity to meet and mingle with their favorites.

Featuring show jumping competitions, indoor cross country courses, Dressage and well as the Ponies UK Super league championships.

In the friday vein of plants & nature, I thought I’d throw in some apples. Perhaps the equine animal’s favorite treat of all time (and quite possibly one of the messiest).

Although I’ve always loved the fruit, recently I’ve had a hard time finding a real apple. Even those labeled organic seem to remain in absolutely perfect condition for far too long.

I remember a time when you had to eat fast to get around an apple before it turned brown. Anyone else remember those days?

In my growing concerns over GM products and agribusiness I’ve been on a quest to find a real, old-fashioned apple. One that goes brown before I can eat all the way around. This has proven to be easier said than done & I’ve seen an organic apple look like it was freshly picked for at least month…ew.

Appaloosa Horse – Breed of the Week

Appaloosa Horse
The Appaloosa is a color breed and registered based upon their displaying one of the six different appaloosa white patterns, leopard, few-spot leopard, frost, snowflake, varnish roan, blanket or snowcap.

Despite popular belief that spotted horses come from North America, they were actually brought from Europe by the Spanish and adopted by the indigenous people in the Americas.

1st Annual Plumas-Sierra Classic Horse Show

Plumas-Sierra Classic Horse Show Saturday June 5th 2010 is the first year for the Sierra Classic Open Horse Show. The show is sanctioned by the Nevada State Horseman’s Association (NSHA-HDA) & the California State Horseman’s Association (CHSA).

Don’t let that scare you though, this show is open to riders of all ages & skill levels. Those who are members of the above associations will earn points towards their end of the year award programs.

The Horses of Carle Vernet

Depicting horses with an animated, illustrative flair, Carle Vernet was a horse lover from a young age. His intimate experience with the animal is evident in his work, as is his passion for the subject.

Surviving The Trauma

Carl lived and worked during the French Revolution, and was personally touched when his sister saw the guillotine. After this tragedy his style changed dramatically and he created the drawings below.

These drawings of Napoleon’s Grand Armee uniforms won Carle a great deal of acclaim. His attention to detail is magnificent and each portrait is infused with the personality of its subjects.
