Tell us a little about you, what is your background & where do you come
from?
I live in Southern Ontario, Canada. I was raised on a tobacco farm, but my mother always had horses. When the tobacco went (thankfully) my mother started boarding, training and giving lessons. My sister works with my mother too.
I have always had horses in my life. I started out riding western, because way back then, nobody around here rode English. About 1972 my mother bought her first English saddle for the monumental price of $200 (I still don’t think my dad knows how much she spent.)

The addition of Riding Aside to my RSS collection got me to thinking about riding sidesaddle and why it scares me so. It just seems so strange to sit on a horse and not actually be astride it.
I think it looks very pretty, but don’t imagine I will be trying it anytime soon. Thankfully now I can read all about it.
Riding sidesaddle may be one thing, but jumping is another thing entirely. Instantly the idea gives me the jitters, simply because balance is an essential element in jumping. And how can both legs on one side truly be balanced?
The part of me that always wonders if I remembered to tighten the girth just won’t allow me to try it.

What do you see as the biggest problem facing the farrier industry today?
I’d have to say the lack of of the truth and missing information. I call it the old school methods still in practice. I’m sure we would almost all unanimously agree that Farrier’s themselves can be a breed apart and many times not easy to deal with when it comes to questioning them about their methods of shoeing. Breyer Horses have been around since I was a kid and and I loved them every bit as rabidly as the real thing. They were a source of endless hours of amusement to me and I still protect them fondly today.
