This looks like a fairly informal event, but the crowd seems to enjoy the action. I won’t tell you who wins (you have to watch) but I will tell you that it won’t come as a big surprise.

It was a fortunate coincidence that led me to the work of Wiktor Wassnezow, but I’m so glad it happened. His work has a romantic feel that is typical of Russian & other northern artists, but the attention to detail & extreme personality in his subjects that captures my imagination.
Wiktor was born in a remote village in Russia in the mid 19th century and his specialty was mythological and historical characters. He was also an important part of the Russian revivalist movement. Unfortunately his fairy tale art wasn’t well received at the time and his art wasn’t publicly celebrated until he turned to more religious themes.

J&M Acres Horse Rescue is a non-profit rescue in Maple Ridge, BC. We rescue most of our horses from auction or from off the racetrack. Our aim is to get as many horses as we can off the meat truck and adopted into loving homes so that we are able to rescue more.

I’ve never even seen a game of polo live so I know very little about this equestrian sport. Although I’ve heard bad things about how the animals are treated, I can say that about almost every facet of the horse industry.
Here is a quick video about the history of the polo game. I thought I’d share some of the roots so everyone can better understand the game. Although it is often thought of as a game for the rich English, it actually dates back to around 500 BC in Persia.

Nicholas Roerich was born in the late 19th century in St. Petersburg, Russia. He was known for more than his art, and was also a philosopher, a scientist a writer and an insatiable traveler.
It’s almost impossible to put tell his story in a nutshell, but here are some highlights. An avid traveler Nicholas was able to incorporate different cultural imagery and ideas into his work. This lends a uniqueness to his body of work (which includes something like 7,000 paintings alone). He was also instrumental in building the first Buddhist Temple in Russia as he felt a connection with the beliefs of the east.
