Horses on Google Earth – In Your Browser
I’ve been hard at work on my latest project which I’m hoping will be helpful to horse people everywhere, Horses on Google Earth. The idea is to use Google’s platform for the mapping of equestrian locations, stables, race tracks, rescues, tack stores, events, artists, photographers, you name it.
So far I’ve started with stables & rescues in the US & a long list of race tracks worldwide.
Equine Champagne Gene

In the last 20 years, DNA testing technology has become both equally complicated and commonplace.
Pair this ease of genetic testing with a rage for horses of exotic and unusual colors and the result has been previously unknown locations of the equine genome. One of these genes has been labeled the champagne gene due to its very unique phenotype (what the horse actually looks like).
Defining The Unknown
Champagne colored horses have no doubt existed prior to genetic testing, but were often registered as a more common color such as palomino simply because that was the closest known match. After seeing a champagne horse it is easy to understand the confusion. In an effort to more accurately trace the champagne gene, The International Champagne Horse Registry was created. This registry has mapped the likely history of the equine champagne gene in addition to documenting known champagne horses.

Horses have always played an important role in civilization whether they were used for agriculture, war, transportation or show. Their beauty and noble bearing makes them the perfect subjects for the most widespread of artistic mediums – coins.
Many western cultures have immortalized the equine animal on their coinage, often paying homage to the horses of war.
These examples date from early Greek & Romans times through the centuries to the US mints of the 21st century.

Pegasus The Winged Horse
There are many horses of folklore and mythology, each one glorious in their own right. However there are few more majestic & mysterious than the mighty pegasus.
The winged horse comes from Greek mythology and
played an important part in the lives of the Gods of Olympus.
How It Began
Pegasus was the son of Poseidon & Medusa (oddly enough) he sprang from Medusa’s neck when she was killed by Perseus.
Legend has it that this anytime pegasus struck the ground, a spring was born on that spot.

The photographer did a phenomenal job of capturing emotion in each one of his subjects. Giving us a glimpse into their way of life.
