Tuesday is artist appreciation day & today it’s all about the work of Karen McLain, another artist I found via Twitter.
Artist of the Week
Todays artist paints animals that not only evoke a sense of personality but a sense of movement as well. It’s almost as if she is providing quick snapshots into their lives. Karen loves all horses equally, but happens to have a soft spot for Quarter Horses.
Keeping Up With Karen
Be sure to visit her website at karenmclainstudio.com or subscribe to her blog at karenmclainstudioblog.blogspot.com to see her latest stuff & you can always find Karen on Twitter to keep up with her work. Here are some quick quotes & my favorite images from her interview, you can read the whole interview here.
“Growing up in Arizona, I was exposed to the outdoors and small rural communities. The love of the outdoors and the desire to be among horses has been a core part of my outlook.”
“I guess the place of inspiration is in the presence of a horse.”
“Trail horses, show horses, or companion horses, the ordinary and extraordinary are all beautiful to me. I understand the powerful bond people have with their horse and that allows me to connect with the horse that I am painting.”
“I see the Internet as a way for collectors to find art that would not be available locally. It is also a wonderful way for commissions to be facilitated.”
Enjoying the Artists
Hope you enjoyed this artist re-visit & that you’ll check out Karen’s full interview to learn more about her & her work. Stay tuned because next week we’ll be re-visiting an interview with horse artist Iwona Jenkowski.
