Horses in Algeria

As we update the site, our breeds section has already had a major overhaul and we are still adding new information, images and videos for each breed. Today we wanted to share the brand new breeds from Algeria category.

Keeping Things Simple

Despite it’s warm and sandy location, Algeria is located in prime horse breeding territory. The two official breeds of the country are among the oldest and most prolific breeds in the world, Arabian and Barb. It should come as no surprise that with animals like that around, people want to make more. Algeria make up for their lack of breed diversity with their longstanding equestrian traditions.

It’s All About the Barb

Clearly the Algerians are a one-breed nation. While there is an Arabian cross, it’s crossed with, you guessed it, the Barb. Arabian blood refines the heavy Barb nose and breeds a slightly smaller animal. Both are desert breeds, shaped by the Saharan weather and sand. This rings similar to Criollo breeds in South American Countries. Interestingly enough, they often have Barb blood too.

Magnificent Animals

We look through a lot of horse images and at times it can be heartbreaking. We are happy to report that the animals in Algeria aren’t just handsome, they are magnificent.
