Beautiful appaloosas come in an almost endless variety of spotting patterns, but can be categorized into several types based on the amount of white in the coat. White patterning over the whole body is called Leopard and is used when white covers 60% or more of the body. Few-spot leopards are the maximum expression of the Leopard complex and are almost pure white (sometimes called dominant white, with a few colored spots, generally on the flank, elbow, neck and head. They may also display varnish marks or roaning.
